Our 2026 river trips at Hocking Hills Canoe Livery ended on October 17. After that date, the canoes and kayaks come off the water until April. But fall in Hocking Hills is far from over, and there are still things to do in the area through November and into winter. If you missed the river this year or you want one more reason to make the drive out, here is what stays open.

Book a Private Tour at Fox’s High Rock Farm
Our family also runs Fox’s High Rock Farm, right down the road on OH-664. The petting zoo closed for the season on October 25, but from November through March the farm offers private tours by reservation. Tours usually run Fridays through Sundays and last up to 90 minutes. You get to feed the animals, step inside the pens, and meet our goats, alpacas, donkeys, sheep, pigs, and horses up close.
Private tours start at $150 for one or two guests and run up to $225 for a group of seven or eight. You also get 15% off in the gift shop after your tour.
Call (740) 370-0800 to book a tour. The farm also hosts Christmas on the Farm on November 28 and December 12.
Hike the Hocking Hills State Park Trails
The state park trails are open year-round, and fall is one of the best times to explore them. Old Man’s Cave, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, and Rock House are all within 20 minutes of Logan. The trails range from easy boardwalk paths to longer gorge hikes with views of fall foliage and towering cliff faces.
Leaf color in our area typically peaks in mid to late October, and the crowds thin out once the summer rush ends. Rock House is worth a stop if you have not been. It is the only true cave in the park system, carved into a 150-foot cliff face with window-like openings that frame the forest below.
Drive the Hocking Hills Scenic Byway
The scenic byway runs through the heart of the hills region and connects many of the area’s outdoor attractions along winding roads. In late October and early November, the drive is lined with fall color. Stop at the overlooks, take your time, and enjoy the scenery at a slower pace. The full loop covers about 26 miles and passes trailheads, covered bridges, and small towns.

The area hosts events and festivals well past the time the boats come in.

Book a Cabin for a Fall or Winter Weekend
Our cabin rentals stay available year-round. A late fall or winter weekend in a cabin gives you a base for exploring the trails, visiting the farm, and enjoying the quiet side of Hocking Hills without the summer crowds. You get the firepit, the stars, and a slower pace that is hard to find during the busy months.
If you want to combine a cabin stay with a river trip, plan for April through October 17. Outside that window, the cabin is your base for hiking, exploring, and relaxing.
Plan Your River Trip for Next Year
The river reopens in April 2027. If you are already thinking about next year, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Book early for weekends. Summer Saturdays fill up, especially in June and July.
- Trip A works for younger kids and first-timers. Five miles, about 2 hours, Class I current, minimum age 3.
- Trip B is the longer route. Seven miles, 3 to 4 hours, and you pass Natural Rockbridge.
- Gift certificates are available year-round. A canoe or kayak trip makes a good holiday gift for someone who would rather be on the water than unwrapping another box.
Browse our trip options to compare routes and rates ahead of April.
